Loreena encourages youth to remember and do their part for democracy
In a November 7th speech to students at St. Michael’s Secondary School in her home base of Stratford, Canada, Loreena spoke passionately about the sacrifices made by Canadians and their allies during past wars – many of them the same young age as the students themselves. Encouraging them to never forget, she also cautioned the students against complacency in the face of current threats to democracy, threats posed by the ‘weaponized’ internet via fake news, misinformation and the manipulation of stolen data.
“When we forfeit our democracy because it’s too hard to defend, too complex, too time consuming, we raise the white flag of surrender,” she said. “This is what our ancestors fought for on the battlefields of Europe so many years ago.”
