Loreena stands up for Canada’s public broadcaster

LISTEN TO THE CONVERSATION

In mid-April, Loreena took part in a live question-and-answer chat with Friends of Canadian Broadcasters in support of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Canada’s national public broadcaster for radio and television. During her chat with Sarah Andrews, senior director of government and media relations with Friends, Loreena talked about the important role CBC plays, especially in these times when Canada’s sovereignty and democracy depend on it more than ever. Loreena revealed how the CBC was always an integral part of her extended family life growing up. She also acknowledged the impact of the many opportunities offered to her by CBC as her career unfolded – things like interviews, contests and live in-studio performances.

“In fact, my career would not have gotten out of the starting gate if not for the spectrum of opportunities offered to me through CBC radio and television,” Loreena said.

The chat was part of National Canadian Film Day, hosted by REEL CANADA and Friends of Canadian Media, which is a not-for-profit organization working to protect and defend Canadian voices and cultural sovereignty in the Canadian media landscape. The annual event has become a cornerstone celebrating Canadian culture, while providing a platform for thousands of Canadians to come together and revel in the rich tapestry of stories woven by talented Canadian filmmakers. The day included a screening of Family: A Loving Look at CBC Radio, a fascinating time capsule produced by the NFB, which spans 50 years of  CBC’s radio public broadcasting.
